Fear of Commitment

Oh well
He’d lost her now he knew
He couldn’t say he was surprised
He’d left it too late to tell her
How he really felt
Left it too late to say
“I love you.”

What did he expect?
That she’d wait indefinitely
For him to get off the fence?
Wait for him to jump
On this side or that?
But he knew his hesitations
Were based on fear
Fear of the unknown and unknowable
Fear of the consequences of making the wrong decision
Fear of jumping down on the wrong side.

So he made a decision
Not to make a decision
And whilst he didn’t
She did.

And now he’d lost her
After finally making up his mind
And so had she.
